Logotype vs Logomark Design – What’s the Difference?



You have surely already heard of the concept of the logo and logotype. Every day you encounter a huge amount of the - signs of prohibition, warrant, information, warning, as well as service and goods, are just everywhere. Their main task is to distinguish and identify the brand from the competition. However, before you commission a project for a company or product, think about whether you care about the logo or logotype design.

You certainly associate the Coca-Cola sign, Google or IBM. These are logotypes. Generally speaking, it is a graphically presented name of the brand. The logo, on the other hand, may consist of the graphical form itself (the so-called signet) or exist in combination with the logotype. Examples - Starbucks, Firefox or Apple. A more extensive form of a logo or logotype may additionally contain a company password, which usually applies only to the case of one of the varieties of the mark, in order to preserve its correct legibility. Do you see the difference now?
